The Field Guide

The First Steps

Every legend begins the same way — small, uncertain, and utterly free. Here is the road from your first breath in Azeroth to the storied heights of level sixty.

New to these lands entirely? Then fortune has smiled on you, for there has never been a gentler time to arrive. Forever is one unbroken world — no agonizing over which realm to join. You may play with a controller in hand. And treasure found in the depths is shared, so no one may snatch the reward from beneath you. You have come at the right hour.

I. Cast Aside the Fear of Choosing a Realm

In ages past, a newcomer's first torment was the choosing of a realm — a server — and to choose poorly was to wander an empty world, cut off from friends. Forever is realmless. One world, all adventurers together. Strike this worry from your mind entirely.

II. Choose Your Banner and Your Kin

You will pledge to the Alliance or the Horde. For a newcomer this shapes where your tale begins and with whom you may stand shoulder to shoulder — nothing more binding than that. Choose the banner your friends carry, or the one whose spirit stirs you.

Forever welcomes the new Skyborne — a neutral people who may be played by either banner, their tale beginning upon Zephras Isle — and, for the first time in memory, the Forsaken may take up the Light as Paladins. If you are new, do not agonize over kin — the look that pleases your eye matters far more than the small gifts each race carries at this stage.

III. Answer Your Calling

This is the one choice that will shape your whole first journey. Do not guess in the dark —let the Calling guide you, and it will match a path to the hero you wish to become. If you would have a single word of counsel for “the safest first road ever walked”: the Hunter (your beast holds the foe while you loose arrows from afar) or the Paladin (armored in plate, mending your own wounds, near impossible to fell).

IV. Your First Ten Levels

V. Wisdom to Set Aside (For Now)

Veterans will bury you in counsel meant for heroes far along their road. Pay none of it mind until you are ready:

The one truth that serves a newcomer best: Forever was made so that the journey to sixty matters — not so you might rush past it. Let yourself wander. Let yourself wonder. The world is in no hurry, and neither should you be.

The Road Ahead

Deeper maps — land by land — walkthroughs for each calling, and counsel for your first dungeon will be inscribed here as the beta reveals its truths (it opens September 17, 2026). Until then:
